Orion Teen gets 8-15 years

Daniel Mark Chase, 18, of Lake Orion, was sentenced to 8-15 years in prison last Friday in Circuit Court.
Chase pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence causing death earlier this year, in a late 2006 accident on Lapeer Road that killed a 24-year-old Oxford woman.
Members of Sherry Burke’s family spoke at the sentencing. A wrongful death lawsuit is pending.
Just weeks before the Dec. 16, 2006 accident, Chase was arrested for driving under the influence less than a half-mile from the deadly scene.
A senior at Lake Orion High School, Chase was an honor student and his lawyers said he made a terrible mistake with drastic consequences.
His no contest plea included the dismissal of second-degree murder charges.
