Lt. Governor to hold discussion in LO

Lieutenant Governor John Cherry will have a community conversation about Michigan’s economy at the Orion Township Library on Thursday, April 24. The event is hosted by the North Oakland Democratic Club and is open to the public.
The discussion will give citizens the opportunity to speak directly with one of Michigan’s top leaders about a plan to make our state the best place to live, learn, and earn in the 21st Century.
Prior to his election as Lieutenant Governor in 2002 and 2006, Cherry was a State Representative, State Senator, and Senate Minority Leader. He has over 30 years of legislative and executive experience.
Cherry has received many awards and honors, including recognition from The Detroit News as one of Michigan’s Most Effective Legislators.’He was named the 2005 Conservationist of the Year by the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) and elected as chair of the Great Lakes Commission, making him the highest ranking Michigan official in history to serve in this capacity.?
He was recently elected Chair of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association.
This event is sponsored by the North Oakland Democratic Club, which now serves nine townships in Oakland County. This club was formerly known as the Orion Area Democratic Club. The two clubs merged this year.
The club frequently hosts speakers from area nonprofits, business, and both sides of the political aisle. Recent speakers have included representatives from Governor Granholm’s and Senator Debbie Stabenow’s offices, County Clerk Ruth Johnson, and Drain Commissioner John McCullough, as well as numerous candidates for office.
