A second project awaits?

While village officials are pleased with the work on the new water main, a second, but related, project lingers.
When the water main upsizing project is completed in the coming weeks, attention will turn to the Flint/Broadway repaving project (which is different from the simple repairs/replacement where mains have been installed).
The repaving project includes Flint Street from M-24 to Orion Road and Broadway from M-24 to Shadbolt. It is currently in the engineering estimate stage.
Village plans call for a Fall, 2008 construction, but questions on project funding have come to the surface.
Funding, to date, has been annual transfers from the Downtown Development Authority to the Flint Street Construction Fund, according to Treasurer Jan Adams.
Additional funding options were discussed at the village council’s April 29 special budget meeting, including additional DDA funding, seeking grants, reducing the scope of the project, delaying the project or seeking a bond.
DDA Director Lois Golden said the DDA board is planning to discuss the issue this week. Look for more information on those discussions at www.lakeorionreview.com.
