Goodrich boys and girls varsity track teams made an impressive showing at the regional meet on May 16 in Algonac.
The boys took second place with 86 points and the girls took first place with 115 points.
‘We have a record number going to states this year,? said Kirk Richards, varsity coach for the boys? team.
Eighteen students from both the girls and boys teams will compete in the state meet, set for May 31 at Zeeland East High School.
Boys invited to the state meet are Jake Winston and Jake McGinnis for shotput, Joe Boifture for highjump, Kyle Hughes for the 200 meter race, Blake Hudak, Kyle Hughes, Nick Mendoza and Nick Sweet for the 4-by-100 meter relay, Kyle Hughes, Brandon DeGrouchy and Kyler Elsworth for the 4-by-400 meter relay, and Kyler Elsworth for the 110 meter high hurdles.
Girls invited were Taylor Pogue for the mile and two mile races, Christina Sweet for the 200 meter, 400 meter, 4-by-100 meter relay and 4-by-400 meter relay, Kourtney Elsworth for the long jump, 100 meter dash, 4-by-100 meter relay and 4-by-400 meter relay, Joann Carter for shotput and discus, Mary Haiderer for the 800 meter race and the 4-by-400 meter relay, Jolynn Zirnhelt for the 300 meter hurdles, 110 meter hurdles and 4-by-400 meter relay, and the 4-by-800 meter relay team of Katie Dymond, Chelsea Bellenger and Kayla Jung.
Jennifer Sweet, girls? varsity coach, said her team broke long-standing records at the meet.
‘Christina Sweet broke my 200 meter dash record that I held for 21 years,? Sweet said of her niece. ‘That was the highlight of the season for me.?
