Sisters (but not twins) celebrate 50 together

April is a month of birthday celebrations for the Crane family. In fact, sisters Cynthia Crane and Sandra (Crane) Hill spent one of the days celebrating being 50, and no, they’re not twins.
Rather, Cynthia celebrated her last day of being 50 on April 18, the same day her sister Sandra turned 50. The sisters were born one year and one day apart.
‘We got a lot of laughs and people scratching their heads with the brain teaser of how we could both be 50, born to the same set of parents, not be twins and neither one adopted,? Cynthia said of their celebration of ?100 years.?
According to Cynthia, when the pair was growing up, many people mistook them for twins as they looked very similar, and their classmates took to calling them ‘Cindy and Sandy, the twins.? At some times, this got old though, and for a time in junior high, the sisters took to going by their middle names to escape their ‘twins? nickname.
Cynthia said she and her sister used to always celebrate their birthdays together when they were younger, along with their other siblings. As a matter of fact, the Crane family had six children, five of them with April birthdays. The other one? It’s a May birthday.
‘Our birthdays were so close in days that our parents would have one big party in April and another small one in May for my brother,? she said. ‘In April, it felt like Christmas. Everyone got to open a present, even my brother.?
‘As we got older, we all would have preferred to have our own celebrations, but my parents had it figured out to do it all together,? Cynthia added. ‘It saved lots of money and energy.?
Cynthia’s son continued the family tradition as well, being born on his mother’s birthday, something she deemed as a ‘great present.?
According to Cynthia, the sisters have not celebrated together in many years, being too busy with their children and jobs, but decided to go all out for 50.
‘We had a great time celebrating our birthdays together this year,? she said.
?(We) decided to really celebrate the 100 years between us,? Cynthia added, noting that they enjoyed dinner, cake and dancing with friends and family. ‘We hope we will be able to celebrate again in 50 years, which would be 200 years between us!?
As for that twin position, Cynthia doesn’t mind that idea so much anymore; since her sister is one year younger, it keeps her one year younger, too.
