High speed boat crash lands man in hospital

A 47-year-old Lake Orion man was taken to the hospital Sunday evening after the personal watercraft he was operating crashed into a dock and seawall on the lake.
According to Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh, witnesses said the watercraft was travelling at a very high rate of speed upon impact. The collision moved a boat hoist several feet and knocked the two personal watercrafts it was holding.
‘There were several witnesses and complaints just prior to the crash,? Narsh said. ‘Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.?
Police were called to the scene around 7 p.m.
‘He came to while the officers were there,? Narsh said. ‘The fire department responded, as well.?
The man was transported to the hospital, but his condition was unknown at press time. Narsh said the man did not sustain any serious injuries.
‘He is a very fortunate individual to be alive today,? he said.
Narsh reminds everyone on or near the lake this time of year to be just as careful as they were at the beginning of the summer season.
‘It’s unfortunate, that this late in the season, we are still susceptible to boating accidents,? he said. ‘Even though there are fewer boats on the lake, people need to be just as careful.?
The chief emphasized that individuals operating any vessel under the influence of alcohol can face severe fines and suspensions.
‘Alcohol and boating don’t mix,? he said.
