With nearly two weeks between action for Clarkston High School, surely its fans are ready to get back to the games. Here are some of the events coming in the near future for the Wolves, including the arrival of the competitive cheer and ski teams.
Boys Basketball
After defeating all three Flint-area teams they faced, the Wolves are nearly on pace to duplicate last season’s 21-5 record. Clarkston has back-to-back Friday night road matchups in Pontiac. The Wolves take on Pontiac Central on Jan. 5 and Pontiac Northern on Jan. 12. Both games are at 7 p.m.
Girls Volleyball
The girls found a way to win at a western-Michigan tournament and came to the break knotted 5-5. Coach Kelly Avenall said she wishes she could have a season-opening loss to Birmingham Seaholm back because they could put up a better fight. Surely they will open up strong with the fresh slate the new year provides. The girls play away at Troy on Jan. 4 after a 5:30 JV game and away versus Walled Lake Central on Jan. 6 at 9 a.m.
Wrestling
Riding high on the team’s sixth consecutive Oakland County championship and a decisive victory over perennial powerhouse Davison on Dec. 21, the Wolves (12-1) look to keep the momentum going into a double-dual meet at Troy on Jan. 3 at 5:30. They take on Waterford Kettering and Oakland County runners-up Lake Orion at the meet. The boys play host to Rochester Adams and Troy on Jan. 10 at 5:30 in another double meet.
Hockey
The Wolves have three conference games consecutively after the break starting first with a rematch against Stoney Creek at Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills on Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. Forward Aaron Podbielski should make his return from a shoulder injury suffered on Dec. 9 against the Cougars. Clarkston (2-6-2 overall) gets another crack at Birmingham at DSC on Jan. 13 at 8 p.m.
Boys Swim
The Wolves look to improve on their 0-2 start at North Farmington on Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. and two weeks later, on Jan. 19, they face Royal Oak at home at 5 p.m.
Co-ed Skiing
The team opens on Jan. 3-4 against Cranbrook, both at 4:15 p.m. at Pine Knob Ski Resort. The Wolves take on Notre Dame Prep at Pine Knob on Jan. 10-11, also both scheduled for a 4:15 start.
Competitive Cheer
The girls host a league meet on Jan. 9 at 7p.m. and head to a league meet on Jan. 22 at Rochester Adams at 6:30 p.m.
Bowling
Clarkston’s bowling squad looks to rebound from losses to Lake Orion and a split with Walled Lake Northern when they play on Jan. 7 at the 300 Bowl in Waterford at 11 a.m. The teams take a trip to Wonderland Lanes in Commerce Township at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 for another league match.
