The Dragons varsity hockey team swept the Thanksgiving showcase recently.
Like the football team, the Dragons hockey team faced their biggest game of the year on Saturday.
‘Some of our players wished we could have swapped sports that day,? said Head Coach Pat Cherry.
The hockey team had to miss their classmates playing in the state football championship to play in their own tournament.
‘We are very proud of the football team,? Cherry said. ‘I’m sure they will inspire other teams to believe that anything is possible.?
In their opening showcase game on Friday, Nov. 28 Dragons faced Saline’s Hornets.
The score was tied going into the third period until the Dragons fired off four goals, making the final score 7-3.
Goaltender Joe Janiga gave up only two of the 20 shots on goal before he had to leave the game due to injury.
The Dragons led through the entire championship game against the undefeated South Lyon Lions on Saturday.
The final score was 6-3.
In the championship game, Adam Chapie had a hat-trick and two assists, Alex O’Dea had two goals and three assists.
Dave Johnson had three assists. Jason Stross played in net and turned away 18 of the 21 shots on goal.
‘It’s important that we get a consistent effort from everyone,’Cherry said Saturday. ‘The key today was that everyone contributed.?
Riding on the weekend’s momentum, the team has some time to prepare for the next league games, Thursday, Dec. 11 against Stoney Creek, and Saturday, Dec. 13 against Clarkston.
