Cagers off to a rough 0-2 start

The Lake Orion boys? basketball team got off to an extremely sluggish start during their first game against Lakeland High School–they only scored two points in the entire first quarter.
‘It put us in a hole we couldn’t dig our way out of,? said Coach Lance Davis.
The Dragons ended up losing that game 58-37.
Coach Davis said there were a few bright spots in an otherwise dismal first game.
Point guard Alex Mayo scored ten points, as did Ian Monk. These are the two players Davis said he will be looking to for points this season.
For a lot of the players, Tuesday’s game was their first varity basketball match.
Davis said he was also impressed with Don Williamson’s six points for his first time out as a varisty player.
‘These are the building blocks. Hopefully we’ll see some better results in the following games,? Davis said.
The game that followed, at home against Pontiac Northen on Friday, went a little better, Davis said.
‘It was a much better presentation,? he said. ‘We came out and did some things right.?
By halftime, the Dragons were only down 31-30. Davis said his squad was doing very well on fast-breaks and forcing time outs.
‘I was impressed with the overall effort in the first half,? Davis said.
Pontiac came out swinging in the second half, though.
‘They turned the pressure up on us,? he said.
Pontiac’s DeAndre Davis did the most damage, racking up six 3-pointers against the Dragons.
‘We’d get within two or three points, and he’d hit another three,? Coach Lance Davis said. ‘We ran out of steam.?
But by game’s end, the 3-point assualt had left its mark and the scoreboard read 71-52.
Still, the Dragons displayed prowess on defense, causing turnovers and working the fast-break, Davis said.
