Winless Dragons lose heartbreaker

After a 48-26 loss at Troy on Jan. 6, the Dragons boys? varsity basketball team was 0-4.
By the fourth quarter of their next game against Adams, it looked as if the Dragons would pull off their first victory of the season.
In fact, even after the last buzzer sounded, the game was tied 39-39.
Or was it?
The referees didn’t think so, abruptly ruling that the Derek Schrauben’s 3-pointer that tied the came was a 2-pointer.
But, according to Coach Lance Davis, the referees waited until the final buzzer to come to this conclusion. Davis said had he known he was down a point, he could have used a time-out in the final seconds.
‘Our fans were a little up in arms,? Davis said. ‘I had a time-out to use, and I would have used it.?
Instead, the referees called the shot a 2-pointer, and ended the game.
‘And that’s how it ended,? Davis said.
The shot came at the end of a game that was close throughout.
It was 8-7 at the end of the first qurater, and 16-17 at halftime.
‘They couldn’t take away from our performance,? Davis said.
Unlike the Troy game, where Davis admitted they didn’t play very well, he said the young Dragons began to find their groove against Adams.
‘We found our identity of what Lake Orion basketball should look like,? he said. ‘It will allow us to correct the mistakes we’ve made and allow us to put our best foot forward.?
Against Adams, Schrauben led the Dragons with scoring with 18 points. Alex Mayo had 6 points.
