The Lake Orion ski teams are starting off a great season, and it’s not just thanks to all the snow they have to ski on lately.
Accoring to Coach Derek Delzer, it all comes down to teamwork.
In their first three races, the boy’s team is undefeated.
They beat Lahser 25-62 (lowest score wins) on Jan. 7 and 8, and beat Andover 31-43 and Rochester 32-41 oat races Jan. 13 and 14.
‘Our boys did really well,? Delzer said.
Corey Blomquist, and the Prochaska brothers, Ian and Zachary Prochaska, performed very well and are always mixed in at the top of all races.
‘Those are our top skiiers,? he said.
But it comes down to leadership and teamwork, too.
Delzer said it’s important to have seniors like Dan Powell on the team.
‘They’ve been doing a great job of leading the team this year,? Delzer said. ‘It’s really nice to see as a coach.?
The girl’s team is racing well too, dropping the first race to Lahser with a close 39-37 score, but winning against Andover 34-39.
Rochester didn’t have enough people to race, so the score wasn’t official, but Delzer said the Dragon skiiers would have bested them.
‘All the girls in here are pushing each other,? Delzer said.
Some of the top girl skiiers are young, like freshman Katie Bruin and sophmore Marie Dohm.
‘I think it says a lot about our team that girls this yound can step up and lead,? he said.
Delzer added that the girls having really come together as a team lately.
‘They’ve really come together and working together as a big unit,? Delzer said.
Delzer added that Kelsey Lepper and Allison Mitchell have also been skiing well.
