If you just shook your head, but still care what Orion’s board of trustees will allow into the township under the revised master plan, you will have a chance to get informed and speak your mind at a public meeting on Feb. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at township hall.
The Orion Township board and the planning commission got together on Feb. 4 so they could get some information themselves.
Discussed at the joint session, and to be discussed further at the public meeting, are concepts ranging from conditional, mixed-use and overlay zoning.
By law, the master plan must be reviewed every five to six years. While no action is necessary, new township supervisor Matt Gibb has hinted he’d like to overhaul much of it to help increase revenue in tough econmic times.
‘This will take some conviction of courage to say, ‘This is where we think we should go,?? Gibb said.
This goes against what Orion’s done in the past, according to planning officials.
‘What they’re discussing is a major policy shift. If we go in the direction of the supervisor, it’s very different than where Orion’s been going,? said Sandra Dyl, the commission’s vice-chairperson. ‘We need to be sure we want to go in that direction.?
