Netters drop to Kimball team
The Lake Orion High School varsity volleyball team were handed two losses at the hands of the Royal Oak Kimball team on Jan. 13.
Kimball beat Lake Orion in two games, 15-13 and 15-8. For Lake Orion, Stephanie Keteyian had eight kills, while Lindsey Randazzo had six service points and five kills. Aubrey Dyl had four kills and four blocks for the Dragons.
Registration coming soon for Lake Orion Girls Softball League
The Lake Orion Girls Softball League will hold registration on Feb. 2 and 9, from 1-5 p.m., at the Gingellville Community Center.

Soccer referee clinic available at Goodells County Park
The Eastern Michigan Officials Association is hosting an entry level referee clinic for soccer referees on Feb. 1-2 at the community center of Goodells County Park in Goodells, MI.
The 16-hour course is required for new soccer officials waiting to work USSF sanctioned matches. It is recommended for high school officials with less than two years experience.

LO Skiers taken down by Clarkston
Sking in the slalom against Clarkston on Feb. 4, both the Lake Orion boys and girls ski teams suffered defeats to the Wolves.
The boys team lost to Clarkston 10-29, while the girls team lost 16-21. In the girls slalom, Lake Orion’s Katie Rivers placed third, with a time of 53.99. Teammate Kirsten Thulin was fourth at 54.11.
On Feb. 6, the Lake Orion girls took second with 81 points in the Pine Knob Divisional. Clarkston won with 35. Thulin placed fourth in the slalom with 56.79, while Rivers was ninth with 57.54.
Thulin took third in the giant slalom with a time of 41.20, and Rivers was fifth with 41.99.
The Lake Orion boys took fourth with 142 points. Clarkston won with 27. Lake Orion’s Alex Faulker was ninth in the giant slalom at 39.42.

Cagers fall to Mott, Troy
The Lake Orion varsity basketball team continued to struggle last week as they were defeated on the road by Waterford Mott and Troy.
On Feb.4, Lake Orion lost to the Mott Corsairs, 73-55. Carl McDonald led the Dragons with 13 points, and Robert Kennedy had 11.
Lake Orion traveled to Troy on Feb. 7, losing 61-54 in overtime to the Colts. McDonald again led the Lake Orion team with 22 points.

n The Oxford Wildcat Wrestling Youth Orgainzation is hosting the State Final Tournament for the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Association at Oxford High School on Sunday, March 16 starting at 7 a.m.
Three separate devisions will be represented with approximately 600 kids competing for state finals trophies. The youths will range in age from 6 to 14 years old.
The tournament will kick off with a big parade including all teams participating at 9 a.m. Wrestling will actually begin at 9:30 a.m.
Food will be available for sale all day beginning with a pancake breakfast served by the Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance Program from 7 – 9 a.m. The Oxford boosters will also be selling concession items throughout the day.
Commemorative State Finals t-shirts will also be available for sale the day of the event.

n Forty wrestlers represented the Oxford Wrestling Club this past weekend at the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Association regionals held in North Branch. Twenty-two Oxford youths qualified for finals this weekend:
Matt Frisch, Marty Giannoia, Zac Hadorn, Jacob Peasley, Alec Smith and Michael Upshur finished with first place wins; Matt Anger, Kyle Brammer, Keegan Cantara, Calvin Cavanaugh, John Logan, Mike Myer, Josh Roe and Rocko Tenaglia finished with second places, Steven Ferguson and A.J. Logan finished with third places; and Danny Cummings, Nick Hadorn, Adam Hetchler, Tanner Hetchler, Steven Lafnear and Dylan Smith had fourth place finishes.

The Lady Dragon softball team continues its winning ways, now at 10-5 for the season.
Wednesday, April 28, they hosted Farmington for two games. With Sandra Rippon on the mound, Lake Orion won the first game, 4-3, after going 10 innings. Farmington tied up the score, 2-2, in the sixth and the seventh inning went scoreless. Both teams earned a run in the eighth, making it 3-3, but the ninth was again scoreless. Lady Dragons stole the win and ended the game in the tenth. The second matchup ended more decidedly, with a 9-1 final score. Megan Dyer lead the team on the mound and ended the game after five innings.
Friday, Aril 30, Dragons split the evening with Troy on home turf. In the first game of the evening, pitcher Rippon was back in action and helped the team to a 4-1 victory. Dyer took the mound for the second game, though the team eventually lost after Troy got the game’s sole run in the fifth inning.

The varsity baseball team went on a five-game winning streak. After their win against Troy Athens, Dragons smashed Stoney Creek, 12-5, April 23, Rochester, 5-0, April 26, and Troy, 7-1, April 28. The team’s Saturday game against Davison was cancelled, with no make-up scheduled, yet.
The boys played Avondale and Rochester Monday and Wednesday this week. Check back next week for those results.

Swimmers 17th at county meet
Farmington Hills Mercy swam away with another Oakland County title last Saturday, lapping the field at Lake Orion High School.
The host Dragons finished tied with Walled Lake Central for 17th place, earning 30 points. Mercy’s 404 points were well ahead of second-place Marian’s 219.5.
Chrissie Forrest finished 12th in the 500-free (5:23.78), and Nicole Kudla placed 16th in the 50-free (25.76).
All three Dragon relay teams also finished in the top-16, including a team-best 11th place showing in the 400-free relay.

Cross Country boys edged at county
Novi Detroit Catholic Central ended Lake Orion’s one-year run as county champion, outlasting 24 other teams Saturday at Kensington Metropark.
The Dragons easily finished second, but their 91 points were 23 out of first place.
Still, Lake Orion saw Ryan Ziolko and Sean Bone finish third and fourth, respectively, with times of 16:24.
Jeremiah Hargett finished 10th with a time of 16:39.
The girls? team, meanwhile, finished 13th overall, with a team score of 305 points. Troy won the girls? event with a 111 total.

Tennis takes seventh
The Lake Orion boys? tennis squad placed seventh last week at the OAA White league tournament, held at LOHS.
Troy Athens took the tournament title with 64 points, followed by Clarkston with 52. The Dragons finished with 29
