The national phenomena of singing competitions is going local.
The first annual ‘Goodrich Idol? will be held during the Good Times in Goodrich Festival on Aug. 29.
‘We’re accepting singers of all ages, all aspects of musical talent and any genre,? said Bernadette Jacobs, a Good Times in Goodrich planning committee member. ‘We have no idea how many people will participate, but we’re optimistic.?
Auditions will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Goodrich Commons.
There will be performances throughout the day and a final competition to round off the event.
‘Auditions are a capella style, but once they make it to the actual competition, they will have a live band behind them,? Jacobs said.
Judges for the event have not been chosen yet, but the planning committee is looking to mimic American Idol’s judging style.
‘We have a few people in mind who would be a perfect Simon Cowell,? Jacobs said, referring to the controversial American Idol judge.
The winner will earn the title of ‘Goodrich Idol,? as well as a prize package.
Good Times in Goodrich will also involve an enlarged children’s arena, which will include inflatables, an appearance from Scooby Doo, fire trucks and clowns, among other entertainment.
There will also be an art fair in town.Children’s activities and events are free.
