Braelyn Ocwieja has been kicking the idea of collegiate soccer around for as long as she can remember.
Siena Heights University has given her a shot. She’s ready to score.
The 18-year-old Brandon High School graduate has played soccer since she was four-years-old. When she was seven, she began her travel career with the Vardar soccer program.
‘Playing soccer in college is something I’ve always talked about,? Ocwieja said. ‘But as soon as I started high school, I thought about it more seriously.?
Ocweija played on the BHS varsity soccer team during her freshman and sophomore years, but focused on Vardar when she was a junior and senior.
The center midfielder said she never aimed for a specific college. Siena Heights University offered her the best position.
‘I get to play center mid when I go there,? she said. ‘It’s a little bit of both defense and attacking. You keep it all together in the middle. I love it.?
Ocwieja has already practiced keeping it together at SHU.
‘I practiced with the team twice,? she said. ‘It went really well. I’m not the only freshman on the team, either.?
While Ocwieja keeps her eye on the soccer goal, her academic goal is secondary education.
‘I’m confident I can do soccer and school without a problem,? she said.
