Oxford senior and varsity ski team member Dan Offer, 17, recently received three honors for his winning season on the slopes – he was named Most Valuable Player of the Brandon-Oxford ski team, received an Honorable Mention All-State and was named a scholar athlete.
“I was pretty excited about it all,” said Offer.
Offer, who’s been skiing since he was three, took numerous first place finishes this season, placed fifth on the giant slalom and seventh on the slalom during Southeast Michigan Ski League competition, seventh on the slalom at MHSAA regional competition and then 23rd in state competition.
“I like the speed,” Offer said. “Skiing’s always fun – I don’t get tired of it.”
But preparing to be a top skier is no easy task. Offer said the hardest part really is staying in shape and keeping his equipment in great condition.
“It’s a lot of hard work,” he said.
Offer added that his favorite course is definitely Marquette. He said there is no comparison between it and the smaller hills in this area.
“It’s a lot longer which is great.”
Offer will be attending Michigan State University this fall to study business and accounting. He plans to continue skiing competitively with the campus ski clubs.
