Ortonville-Portia Mahoney said the judges at Ortonville’s 4th Annual Art Contest are chosen for their experience in the arts. The winners aren’t.
‘It’s a small town,? said Mahoney, owner of Ortonville’s Art of Life, 391 Mill St. ‘This isn’t so much about competition, it’s about sharing your talents.?
Registration will be open from June 8 to June 18 at Art of Life. Sign-up is free for ages 17 and under and $10 for artists 18 and older.
‘There are four age categories,? Mahoney said. ‘In the past, we’ve had as many as 30 entries. Maybe more.?
The contest will take place on June 18 at Beets Beats & Eats. Entries must be ready to hang by 3 p.m., and winners will be announced that evening.
‘Any original, two-dimensional art is accepted,? Mahoney said. ‘No craft kits, though.?
Mahoney said last year’s People’s Choice winner, Wanda Quigley, is a great example of what winning can bring.
‘Wanda said she’d never sold her art before, but a couple liked her painting so much, Wanda sold a printing of it,? Mahoney said.
A copy of Quigley’s painting is currently available in Art of Life.
‘Show your talents,? Mahoney said. ‘Promote the arts.?
