The first time Sam Keeble saw the movie Lassie, he knew he wanted to make films when he grew up.
‘That’s just a great movie,? the 17-year-old Brandon High School senior said.
Keeble’s passion for film has only grown since then, and he was honored for his work on three films at the 42nd Michigan Student Film and Video Festival on April 24.
Keeble’s films ‘Dreams Never End? won Best in Show, ‘Catch? won the award of excellence, and ‘Over the Hills and Far Away? won the award of honor.
After winning the Best in Show award, Keeble received a scholarship to attend Western Michigan University for a three-day program, where he was able to attend classes led by experts in the field.
‘The whole trip was paid for, which was great,? he said. ‘And winning those awards was so inspiring. Getting recognized is what it’s really all about.?
His film will also compete in the Michigan Youth Arts, which is a statewide arts education association that serves as a collaborative of discipline-specific arts education organizations.
The Michigan Student Film and Video Festival showcases the work of students from grades K-12 and was sponsored by Digital Arts, Film & Television, in partnership with the Detroit Film Theater.
Keeble said his next project is going to take place in Ortonville.
‘I want to go out and get people involved,? he said. ‘It’ll be my last production before I leave Ortonville.?
Keeble said the theme of his newest film will be a reverence for nature.
‘We take things for granted and don’t appreciate nature as much as we should,? he said.
