School board approves area attendance adjustment plan

The Oxford Area Community Schools board of education passed the much debated redistricting proposal with a 6-1 vote.
The only school board member to vote against the plan was new trustee Jamie Flemming. Her primary reasons included her inexperience with the topic and brief time on the board.
‘I personally haven’t had adequate time to research all the information,? she explained. ‘This is a large decision that affects so many students, and I feel as though I came in at the end of something and missed many of the complex issues.?
‘I don’t feel comfortable supporting something I’m not completely familiar with.?
Trustee Lee Barclay supported the proposal, but did voice a concern for keeping the public even better informed on district issues.
‘I don’t think the general public had any idea that this was going to happen when they voted for the addition onto Leonard three years ago,? he explained.
The approved plan will be moving 150 students from Lakeville Elementary to Leonard. The transfer will take place for the upcoming school year.
