Members of the Oxford varsity golf team showed their skill before the winter storms by winning the Flint Metro League Meet at Heather Hills golf course. A total of 29 girls, composing five teams, competed for the top spot.
The Lady Wildcats took the lead with a 431 total score. They were followed closely by Linden in second with 434, Lapeer West with 492, Brandon with 506 and Lapeer East with 557.
According to parent Bob Hubbard, the competition was tight right until the end, when Oxford pulled ahead by taking three of the top five individual spots.
Scoring her second best ever was Jacqui Grace with 99. Also helping to lead the team to victory were Beth Hubbard with 107, Jackie Maher with 110 and Kate Hubbard with 115. Emily Jacobsen shot 116 for the day and Samara Carroll had 127.
Receiving individual medals were Grace in second place, Beth Hubbard in fourth and Maher tieing for fifth.
On Monday, the girls took third place at the Oakland County Division II Tournament with 392 points. The Lady Cats originally tied with Ortonville/Brandon until the scores were taken out to fifth place.
Scores for the day were Grace with 92, Maher with 95, K. Hubbard with 101, Jacobsen with 104 and B. Hubbard with 105.
Tuesday found the Oxford team battling not only Linden, but the wind – and losing 229-201. Scores were Maher with 57, Grace 57, B. Hubbard 57 and K. Hubbard 58.
The team goes up against Romeo tonight (Wednesday) at Heather Hills.
