Goodrich- It ain’t over yet.
A persistent flu season that has filled emergency rooms, closed schools and caused at least two deaths in Genesee County has strained the stock of the flu vaccine in some locations.
Jason Chon, CEO of PharmD Co./ Health Mart, 8191 S. State Road, Goodrich had run out of the medication, but on Wednesday received a new shipment.
‘The flu vaccine goes fast,? said Chon. ‘We recommend call ahead for an appointment and reserve your shot. The demand for the shot is statewide and great right now. If you’re over 65 or near infants during the day I’d recommend getting the vaccine.?
The Goodrich School District posted a parent’s guide to flu symptoms on their website, goodrichschools.com.
‘One of the recommendations is that if you have the flu, stay home at least until the point where an individual is no longer contagious,? said Scott Bogner, Goodrich School District superintendent.
‘The health and well-being of our students and staff is paramount,? he said.
‘Goodrich Area Schools will continue to follow our protocol for dealing with the flu as outlined by the health department. If a student needs to be home because they are sick, we will continue to work with our families to make sure their students are healthy and that they stay on track academically.?
According to the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the best way to prevent getting the flu is by getting vaccinated. People infected with flu shed virus and may be able to infect others from one day before getting sick to about five-to-seven days after getting sick.
