Atlas Twp.-The board of trustees voted 5-0 Monday night to purchase about three acres of property south of the township hall along Gale Road.
The parcel was purchased from a township resident at the assessed value of $37,600.
Township Supervisor Shirley Kautman-Jones said there is no immediate use for the property, which was discussed in close session on Dec. 17.
‘If in the future the school may need the land or for another municipal use we’ll have the land available,? she said. ‘The only township-owned property is here on Gale Road.?
Township property was used in 2009 when the board OK’d a plan for a soccer field, utilizing about an acre-and-a-half of approximately 11 acres of township land east of the hall with frontage on Gale Road. The decision marked the first township use of property for recreation.
