Goodrich- A piece of downtown will cost $40,000.
For more than a century it was home to the Goodrich Hotel. Then home to the Goodrich Apartments. Now the small Hegel Road parcel in the heart of the downtown area will be for sale on Sept. 5.
The village council opted not to purchase the foreclosed parcel near Clarence and Hegel roads, about a half block north of the Atlas Township Fire Station for $15,786.58. The cost is comprised of past due taxes, sewer fees and demolition. In October 2012 demolition crews from Ortonville-based Bedrock Express razed the century-and-a-half-old structure in downtown Goodrich.
The village, which had the first right of refusal, had until July 12 to decide on the parcel.
Village Councilmember Rick Horton made several suggestions regarding the property at the Monday night meeting.
‘It’s a nice piece of property,? he said. ‘There’s no guarantee it will sell, but there’s good traffic downtown and sewer hook-up, too. Perhaps an office or small business shop would fit just right there.?
If the property is not sold in September the village may still get the property through the Genesee County Land Bank.
