Ortonville- Get your geek on.
During Septemberfest Sept. 28 in the village, the Brandon Township Library will officially join in a national campaign to ‘Geek the Library.?
Julie Fikes, chairman of the local Geek Committee, explains that the campaign is one of advocacy for libraries, encouraging people to share their hobbies and passions and to come find what the library has to offer for what you are interested in.
‘No matter what you geek, the library has something for you? whether it is online music, or books,? she said. ‘We are getting the word out about all the services we offer… See how we can help you excel at new hobbies, or education or just reading or anything at all that you are passionate about. We can help you find the information you need.?
The campaign’s official kick-off at Septemberfest will include a video made by teen associate librarian Alexa Webb. She has taken pictures of library board members and staff, as well as patrons with props from their hobbies to show that the library supports what members of the community enjoy. Stop by the library’s Septemberfest booth to have your photo taken for the campaign and be sure to bring a prop supporting your hobby. Sign-up times will also be taken for participating in the campaign at the library.
The local rock band Salter will also get their geek on for the library as they play during the street dance at Septemberfest, wearing their geek shirts and talking up the library.
‘Stop by the library booth and check it out, it’s fun!? said Fikes. ‘We offer so much that the community doesn’t know about. Sign up and get your photo taken and a coupon for a free book from the Friends of the Library.?
