Brandon Twp.- Weather may have played a role in a car accident Monday night in the township that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Terry Mekoski said black ice was forming on the roads at the time of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
According to OCSO reports, the accident occurred around 8 p.m., Nov. 11, on Seymour Lake Road, west of Sashabaw Road when an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Impala, driven by an 18-year-old male resident of the Village of Ortonville, crossed the centerline and struck a westbound 2000 Ford Focus.
Olivia Spolyar of Orion Township, a Lake Orion High School student and front seat passenger in the Impala, was transported by Brandon Fire Department staff to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, where she was pronounced deceased at 9:33 p.m.
The Impala’s driver was taken to Genesys in serious condition, but has been released from the hospital.
The Ford Focus had three occupants, all males. The 19-year-old Focus driver, an Oxford resident, had two passengers, ages 18 and 19 and also from Oxford. The Focus driver and backseat passenger were taken by Oxford Fire Department personnel to McLaren Hospital in Pontiac and the front seat Focus passenger was taken to Genesys. All three remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
