By Monday afternoon, several sidewalks on corners of downtown Clarkston streets had sidewalks and brick pavers ripped out and ready to be revamped.
Some sidewalk areas in the city of Clarkston are being redone to make them compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Crews will remove and replace the curb and install stamped concrete.
Sidewalk work will be completed in conjunction with a $4.5 million project to resurface 8.6 miles of M-15 from Dixie Highway in Independence Township to Wolfe Road in Ortonville.
Tom Obee, an operator with Carlo Excavating, the company doing sidewalk work, said crews will be working from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily.
Although some corners will be closed with safety cones, the crews assured residents they intend to do whatever it takes to keep traffic in own flowing smoothly.
‘We will keep pedestrian traffic flowing because this town gets busy,” said Obee.
Obee estimated sidewalk projects will be completed in about four weeks.
Although crews had parking spots on the east side of Main Street closed with a sign that read no parking after 3 p.m., the owner of Picasso’s Grapevine in downtown said she is not worried that the parking spot closures will effect her business because her customers always park in the public parking lots.
‘Plus after the work is done our downtown will have a fresh new loo,? said Leanna Haun.
Ace Asphalt, the contractor doing the resurfacing and re-milling road work began working on the road project this week. Although patching and filling holes will be done daily, the resurfacing work will take place at night on weekends.
During the week there will be two lanes open on Main Street.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane on weeknights and weekdays from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
