Groveland Twp.- David and Fran Parry are on a roll.
The township couple have won on the television show ‘LIVE with Kelly and Michael? playing trivia four times in the past six years.
The recipe for their success?
‘Enter every day and use your DVR,? laughed Fran, who along with husband David will be heading to a tropical location later this year. ‘The more frequently your name gets in the game the greater the chance of getting selected. It’s simple.?
‘LIVE with Kelly and Michael? airs locally at 9 a.m. on WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit and requires contestants, who enter online, to watch the previous show and keep track of the show’s details. Each day, one contestant is randomly selected for a chance to play on the show and receive a phone call from the hosts. The hosts then spin a prize wheel to give the contestant the chance to either answer that day’s trivia question about a previous show’s broadcast or a general question about the show.
The most recent win by the Parrys on Tuesday morning resulted in a trip to the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.
‘I was having coffee about 8 a.m. and a representative of the show called and asked questions regarding our family,? she said. ‘So we reviewed the past three episodes of the show and Kelly called us about an hour later.
The question was regarding Leah Mitchell from the show ‘Glee? who was recently on the show.
?’What actress gave Mitchell her Emmy?,? Kelly asked. ‘Barbra Streisand,? I answered,? said Fran.
When the Parrys started winning five years ago, the show included Regis Philbin, who was replaced by Michael Strahan as co-host with Kelly in 2011.
‘With the latest win on Tuesday, that makes three trips and a gift card to Pier One,? said Fran.
‘I took notes of the people Kelly or Michael or Regis interview on their show’from kids? names to movies to random questions,? she said. ‘You don’t know the questions and you’re kind of freaking out.?
In 2009 Fran lost the grand prize, but still won a $500 gift card to Pier One.
‘They asked me, ‘What was the first show Selena Gomez was on?? I froze’just missed it, the answer was ‘Barney,?? she laughed. ‘I still won a $500 gift to Pier One Imports.?
In 2010, a spin of the wheel by then long time host Regis landed on Spice Island Beach resort in Grenada.
‘They asked the question, ‘Katie Holmes is married to Tom Cruise’she is starring in a movie portraying a real person. Who is that person?? ‘Jackie Kennedy,? I answered,? said Fran.
That answer won seven days, six nights in Grenada for two where Fran and David spent their 24th wedding anniversary.
A year later in 2011, the couple were on their way to the Caribbean island of Antigua after answering a trivia question regarding former ESPN sportscaster and current FOX Sports personality Erin Andrews and her stints on ‘Dancing with the Stars,? laughed Fran.
‘The show called twice in 2013, but we did not answer the phone’we just missed it,? she said. ‘A lot of friends must watch the show, because my phone rings all day after we win. This is really the only game we play and we’ll keep on playing, we love the trips.?
David is a 1979 Brandon High School graduate. He and Fran have been township residents for 23 years and have one daughter, Olivia, a freshman at Michigan State University.
