Most football players dream of someday being able to play on Monday Night Football.
But on July 23, it will be their moms and other female supporters of the Dragon program that take center stage at Lake Orion High School.
The PEPP Club (Parents Encouraging Players Positively) and Dragon GAP (Guided Activities Program) are teaming up to offer a Women’s Football 101 Camp, conducted by the LOHS coaches.
‘I was reading online and saw that (Michigan) did a fundraising camp like this,? said GAP Coordinator Ben Gerdeman, who suggested the idea to Coach Chris Bell.
‘There is quite a buzz,? Gerdeman noted, ‘especially among the PEPP Club.?
The camp will run from 4-6:30 p.m. on the field at Dragon Stadium with dinner and refreshments to follow at Buffalo Wild Wings.
The PEPP Club is set to receive 20-percent of all sales at the restaurant on both July 16 & 23.
The fee for the camp is $40 and includes a t-shirt.
‘It’s a really neat atmosphere down on the field and they’ll get to experience that,? Gerdeman said. ‘They’ll learn what all of the positions do and what the players go through in a typical practice.?
Gerdeman added that he hopes to make the event an annual one. Any female supporter 18 years or older is welcome to participate in the camp.
Workout clothes and gym shoes are suggested, as well as some green and white. Spectators are welcome as well, and Gerdeman said he’ll be in the crowd.
‘My wife is going to do it with some of her friends,? he said. ‘It’s going to be a lot of fun.?
