Spikers bounced back from their loss against Lake Orion with a win over another OAA Red foe Birmingham Seaholm in three sets – 25-22, 25-14 and 25-21.
They lost to the Dragons after battling through five sets, 3-2.
“It was a huge letdown for us,” said Kelly Pinner, head coach for Clarkston Varsity Volleyball. “It was a match we should have won and we made too many mistakes at the end. We regrouped on Wednesday in practice and talked about the fact it’s not the end of the season and we have a lot more season left. We still want to win the rest of the league matches. We reevaluated our goals in terms of the rest of the season, too. It was good to come back after the huge loss with a win.”
During the two games, Abbey Malinowski had 32 kills, four ace; Sarah Austin had 26 kills; Madi Jidas had 40 digs; and Kayla Miller had eight blocks and ten kills.
“We still have work to do in terms of our intensity,” Pinner added. “We are working every day in practice and trying to still be confident, have goals in mind so the Lake Orion match isn’t the end of us. It’s hard when you play a hard match like that against Lake Orion when you know emotions are going to be high. They always are when you play Orion.”
The Lady Wolves opened the week against Bloomfield Hills and host Oxford on Thursday during Senior Night.
“It will be a nice celebration for the seniors,” said Pinner. “They both are tough teams. We have seen Oxford already and they have two really good outside hitters.”
The girls head to the Marian tournament on Saturday which is a smaller tournament with eight teams which are state ranked or are honorable mentions.
“Marian is a tough team,” Pinner said. “The tournament has two teams we have lost to Lake Orion and Northville. It will be good.”
