Kayla O’Mara sets GHS record at MSU Invitational

It didn’t take long for Goodrich freshman cross country runner Kayla O’Mara to make her mark in the school’s record books.
O’Mara set a new school mark by finishing with a time of 18:21 (good for 2nd place overall) at the Michigan State University Invitational Division III-IV meet in East Lansing Sept. 20.
The Martians’ girls cross country team, ranked first in the state in Division III, continued their hot streak by winning the meet with 39 points, marking their fourth straight victory. Williamston took 2nd with 63 points and Traverse City St. Francis 3rd with 84 points.
Goodrich also received strong contributions from Kaitlin O’Mara (4th, 18:43), Janee Jones (5th, 19:01) and Samantha Minkler (11th, 20:38). Other competitors were Kelsey Meyers (17th, 21:08), Molly Downer (39th, 22:19) and Natalie Cook (42nd, 22:24).
The boys team finished 7th overall at the MSU meet with 176 points. Jake Custer led the Martians, finishing 15th overall with a time of 17:43, while Jeremy Phan placed 22nd with a time of 18:08.
