Players took to the field on a misty evening as the Clarkston Boys Soccer program hosted the fourth annual Run with the Pack Special Olympics soccer game, Oct. 16.
Twenty-eight players from Rochester Knights, Lake Orion Wildcats and Lake Orion Wild Dragons played in the ultimate battle at Clarkston High School after finishing their season two weeks ago.
“Getting the chance to play under the lights in the stadium is a thrill for these players,” said Curtis Payment, head coach for the varsity team. “They love the sport and just want to share this love with others. As one player told me, this is bigger for me than Christmas.”
The opportunity to give back to the community is an important part of the program for Payment. He puts the power in the varsity boys’ hands as they collect monetary donations, referee and fill all the necessary positions to make this event run smooth, while cheering and supporting these special guests.
All proceeds raised from the events goes back to Special Olympics. Over $500 donated during Run with the Pack will help to fund the program for the coming year.
