15 years ago – 2002
“Clarkston unites for Day of Prayer” Clarkston and Independence Township came to together in celebration of the National Day of Prayer during the fifth annual breakfast held at St. Daniel Catholic Church. People from various religions met, forgetting their differences, to ask for God’s blessing.
“CHS students painting the town” Fifty Clarkston High School students revitalized Vern Pressel’s home during the school’s third annual Paint the Town project. They painted his house and did some landscaping work during the day event.
“Trim sets tourney record with 78” Clarkston High School senior Anna Trim was hoping to shake off a slump when she hit the course for the Eccentric Tournament. She set a tournament record with a round of 78 at Fieldstone Golf course as she led a pack of 70 golfers at the event.

25 years ago – 1992

“$269,000 approved for fire station” The Independence Township Board of Trustees approved the purchase the former First Federal Bank building on M-15 near Dixie Highway for $269,000 and would be paid from the fire department’s budget.
“…And a partridge in an oak tree” A partridge appeared one day at the Spencers home in Independence Township while Sandy Spencer was mowing the lawn. “Just out of nowhere it appeared,” said Sandy. “It followed me up and down the lawn.”
“Girls win own invite” The Clarkston Girls Track and Field team narrowly won their own invite with 120 points. Livonia Stevenson was a close second with 119 1/3 points. Angie Brown and Kristen Stanton broke two meet records during the meet.

50 years ago – 1967
“Receives appointment to Naval Academy” Jack Frost received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He began his training at the academy in June.
“Watch where you park” The Village of Clarkston cleared an area on Church Street and graveled it to provide parking for people who parked their vehicles within the village on an all day basis.
“Around the town” Mr. and Mrs. Harold Summers and family enjoyed visiting friends in Detroit. Before returning home they stopped at the Susie Q for dessert.
