Clarkston for Life kicks off with a community book discussion at Clarkston Independence Township Library, June 28 at 7 p.m.
Clarkston for Life is a new community well-being initiative focused on the social, emotional, and physical health of Clarkston’s children, adults, and older residents, with an understanding that well-being is the key to positive life outcomes.
Over the next five years, Clarkston will become a model of community well-being as our residents grow in their knowledge and understanding of the research behind achieving wellness.
Clarkston for Life is a collaborative effort created by Clarkston Community Schools, area businesses, health care professionals, counselors and wellness experts. The “red thread” in the Clarkston for Life logo is meaningful. In many cultures, a red thread is a metaphor for uniting and building connections. It is suggested once a person enters our lives and makes an impact, the connection lasts a lifetime.
In Clarkston, the red thread is a symbol of our ties to our community, and to each other for lifelong social, emotional, and physical well-being.
One of the ways you can get involved is to join the book discussion on The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. Robin Maloney, a social worker and advocacy chair for the Clarkston High School PTSA will facilitate a book discussion. It’s not too late, and you don’t have to finish the book to join this discussion.
A second book discussion on The Resilience Factor by Karen Reivich on August 17 at 7pm and is led by Lisa Sheldon. Stay connected with Clarkston for Life on their Facebook page – ClarkstonForLife.– Mary Ellen Rowe
