15 years ago – 2002
“Bay Court vandalism has officials frustrated” A few vandals were ruining it for everyone at Bay Court Park. During the summer there had been an extreme amount of littering and vandalism at the park and most of it centered around the disc golf course.
“Clarkston Schools prepare to sell land in Springfield Township” Clarkston Community Schools were going forward with negotiations to sell 18.9 acres of land on Holcomb Road adjacent to Springfield Plains Elementary, but neighboring residents were up in arms.
“Back in session” Clarkston kids headed back to school for the first day on Aug. 26 and a few were caught by CNews photographers as they got off the bus, walked to school or held open the door for students and parents.

25 years ago – 1992

“Students back in school; strike over” Summer was officially over for 5,700 students in the Clarkston Community Schools district after representatives for the administration and teachers’ union agreed on a tentative agreement, ending the five-day strike.
“Township board halts DDA plan” The Independence Township Board of Trustees voted not to approve a second amendment to the Downtown Development Authority’s development plan which included the widening of White Lake Road and street lighting on White Lake Road and Citation Drive.
“Vandals hit cemetery” Five century-old headstones were damaged in Andersonville Cemetery, on Big Lake and Andersonville roads in Springfield Township. Someone knocked over three headstones and broke two others.

50 years ago – 1967
“Village Days festivities to start Friday” Planners were hoping for good weather for Clarkston’s annual Village Days which included the Labor Day Parade, sailing regatta on Deer Lake and the American Legion Corn Roast.
“Twelve lettermen back” Coach Ralph Kenyon opened two-a-day drills for 45 boys out for Clarkston Varsity Football. There were only 12 returning lettermen back from the previous year’s squad, which finished second in the Wayne Oakland league.
“Round the town” Mr. and Mrs. Stanley White returned from a trip to New York City where they enjoyed visiting with relatives for a week.
