Oxford’s varsity cagers split this past week against Richmond and Lapeer West.
On Thursday, the ladies dominated Richmond on the court winning the game 49-29. In the first half, Oxford put on some strong defensive speed that overpowered Richmond’s weak offence giving the Wildcats an average lead of 20 points.
By the second half, the Lady Cats were so far ahead that Coach Becky Graves put in her second string. The younger varsity players were not only ablt to maintain the point gap, but increase it.
However, the momentum did not last with Oxford losing to Lapeer West 59-63.
Oxford outscored West in the first half, but ended up lagging behind by the close of the third. High scorers for the evening were Megan Stumph with 19 points including three 3-pointers, Denise Spratley with 12 and Ally Zonsius with nine.
Spratley was the highlight player for the night, leading the way with nine rebounds and five steals.
The Wildcats are at home next against Fenton. They go into the matchup with a 6-7 overall record.
