15 years ago – 2003
“Dog bite disrupts downtown Clarkston trick-or-treat” A 12-year-old girl was treated for a dog bite to her finger on Halloween. The girl, walking a shih-tzu, was bitten when she attempted to rescue her dog from conflict with a Great Dane.
“Drivers dress up for Halloween” Clarkston Community Schools bus drivers showed their Halloween spirit with a costume party and contest at the bus garage, Oct. 31. As part of the fun, prizes were given for several costumes and judges included Superintendent Al Roberts and Deputy Superintendent Dave Reschke.
“Runners earn state CC title” The Clarkston Girls Cross Country team set their goal and achieved it as they came in first at the Division I state meet with 102 points. Lyndsey Smith led the pack with a ninth place finished.

25 years ago – 1993

“Will technical center close?” Educators had begun reading the fine print of Governor Engler’s school reform package and some were worried about the future of vocational-technical schools in Michigan.
“’Bad wells’ pose problems in city business district” Water problems seemed to be the way of life for many Clarkston residents and business owners as some were drilling new wells and others were using bottled water due to tainted wells.
“Gridders top Polar Bears in season finale” The Clarkston Varsity Football team capped another successful season by defeating Highland Park, 31-30, in triple overtime. Joe Davis scored a touchdown in the third overtime as did the Polar Bears but Highland failed to score on a 2-point conversion.

50 years ago – 1968
“Not much mischief here” Trick or treaters were out in force but the report was it was a relatively mild night. The treaters were residents who passed out goodies to hundreds of goblins and trickers were on good behavior as a whole.
“Back to school at Clarkston El” The parents of Clarkston Elementary students will have a taste of school life after a PTA business meeting.
“Round the town” Jeff Seaman celebrated his 13th birthday with dinner at the Sveden House with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Seaman, and brother, Gary.
