The Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball opened the season with two losses but bounced back going on a 17-game winning streak before closing the season.
“I am proud of the way we played this year,” said Tim Wasilk, head coach. “We had a great season.”
He added he was proud of the kids especially the new players and the new starters after the team graduated 11 seniors from last year’s team.
“For our kids to stick together and play so well on both ends on the floor and have great chemistry, credit to the guys,” Wasilk said. “It’s been a fun year. I was proud to coach them.”
The boys competed against tough teams throughout the season – each one trying to get a win over Clarkston. The boys met the challenge by focusing.
One of Wasilk’s focus for the team was a combination of competing every day with relaxing and having fun.
“Sometimes with the younger teams you get some nerves settle in and in situations they haven’t played in before. I am just trying to get the kids to relax and mentally that helps out,” Wasilk said.
The Wolves finished the season with a 17-3 overall record and 12-0 in the OAA Red to win the league championship.
The team includes freshmen Zach Austin, Mike DePillo, Fletcher Loyer, Keegan Wasilk; sophomores Blake Kosin, Connor McKouen; juniors Trenton Church, Cole Donchez, Matt Nicholson, Jaden Wasilk; seniors Kris Hoffman, Jake Jensen, Josh Luther, Desmond Mills-Bradley, Denton Smith, and student assistant Mason Kochanski.
They were led by Wasilk, head coach, and Doug Colling, assistant coach.
