The Wolves qualified for the MHSAA Track and Field State Finals in nine events during the regional meet at Lake Orion, last Friday.
“It was a great year,” said Kevin Breen, head coach for the boys and girls teams. “We had a great time.”
Brendan Favazza finished as regional champion in the 3,200-meter run finishing in first place in the time of 9:20.06. Teammate Mark Sprague finished in third at 9:36.21, just missing the time to qualify for states.
“He missed the qualifying standard by two-tenths of a second,” Breen said. “When you think about the whole two miles in the nine minutes they are running for him to miss by just two-tenths of a second is pretty heartbreaking.”
Shawn Slater qualified for the 1,600-meter run in the time of 4:23.96 and Nathan Sesti also finished fourth to qualify in the 800-meter run, 1:57.11.
Christian Collis, Slater, Favazza and Sesti qualified in the 3,200-meter relay finishing in third place at 8:00.23.
For track events; 100-meter dash, Jake Honstetter, seventh, 11.59; 200-meter dash, Devin Parkinson, fourth, 22.86; 400-meter dash, Alex Ryan, sixth, 52.85; 800-meter run, Sesti, fourth, 1:57.11; Collis, eighth, 2:00.22; 1,600-meter, Slater, fourth, 4:23.96; Nathan Murray, ninth, 4:33.12; Jeremy Cavallo, 15th, 4:45.26; 3,200-meter, Favazza, first, 9:20.06; Sprague, third, 9:36.21; Andrew Sesti, fifth, 9:54.84; and 300-meter hurdles, Drew Radlick, 13th, 42.65.
The 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams finished in seventh place, with the 400-meter team at 44.50 and 800-meter team at 1:33.89. The 1,600-meter relay team finished in eighth, 3:38.92.
For field events; shot put, Ben Haas, third, 47-11; discus, Haas, eighth, 123-10.50; Avery Grail, 19th, 96-07.5; high jump, Valen Kurmaniak, eighth, 5-08; pole vault, Miguel Gutierrez and Luke Grabowski, eighth, 11-00; and long jump, Lewyn Beernink, 12th, 18-11.50.
The girls qualified in five events with Grace Nolan in the 3,200-meter run in second place; Elizabeth Dalrymple in the 1,600-meter run, third place; and Shae Harbaugh in 300-meter hurdles.
Harbaugh, Allie Eriksen, Haley Puskar and Karlie Mattinson qualified in the 800-meter relay finishing in second, 1:46.25; and the team of Eriksen, Dalrymple, Harbaugh and Mattinson finished in second in the 1,600-meter relay, 4:01.47.
For track events, 200-meter dash, Mattinson, fourth, 26.34; 400-meter run, Eriksen, third, 1:01.02; 800-meter run, Dalrymple, fifth, 2:19.85; Shannon Billette, eighth, 2:27.35; Mattie Drennan, 15th, 2:33.98; 1,600-meter, Dalrymple, third, 4:57.51; Drenna, eighth, 5:28.63; 3,200-meter run, Nolan, second, 11:03.27; Elise Wilhelm, tenth, 12:15.54; 100-meter hurdles, Haley Puskar, seventh, 17.19; 300-meter, Harbaugh, third, 45.94; and Puskar, seventh, 49.65.
For field events; shot put, Alysa Perez, 11th, 29-08; Lyndaya Marshall,14th, 29-00; discus, Perez, ninth, 99-03; Jen Starnes, 21st, 81-02; high jump, Allison Osborn, seventh, 4-08; pole vault, Hannah Golab, fourth, 9-09; Julia Hunt, fifth, 9-03; and long jump, Osborn, 15th, 15-00.
The Wolves host the Oakland County Championship on Friday.
“Having the county meet here is a big deal to be able to perform at your home stadium,” Breen said. “We are going to try a few things to get them ready for states a little bit more.”
The first event is at 3 p.m.
