Ready to wrestle at state finals
Seven Wolves head to Ford Field the MHSAA Division 1 Wrestling Individual State Finals on Friday and Saturday.
Junior Ashton Anderson (34-6) is the first on the mat for Clarkston as he wrestles Macomb Dakota’s Nathan Smith in round one.
Senior Presley Pearce (31-14) opens against Mike Hakim from Dearborn Heights Crestwood in the 140-pound weight class.
Junior Grady Castle (25-10) wrestles Birmingham Seaholm’s Jackson Vance in the 152-pound weight class. Junior Hayden Payne (36-11) opens against Traverse City Central’s Remy Cotton in the 160-pound weight class.
For the 189-pound weight class, senior Drew Stark (21-15) opens against Brighton’s Greyson Stevens and senior Frank Davis (30-8) opens against Rockford’s Cole Gleason.
Senior Jacob Jones (24-4) opens the 215-pound weight class against Caledonia’s Ryan Stanton.
Round one begins on Friday with the 103-pound weight class at 11:30 a.m.
The Wolves finished the season with a 54-3 loss to Davison in the MHSAA Division 1 Wrestling Team Quarterfinals on Friday. Jones scored the lone points with his 3-1 win over Tyler Jelinek in the 285-pound weight class. The team finished the season with a 21-5 overall record.
Loyer breaks 100 career 3-pointers
Sophomore Fletcher Loyer became the 11th player in Clarkston Boys Basketball history to make 100 career 3-point field goals after scoring five during last Friday’s game at North Farmington, putting him at 102.
He also joined the ranks of career point leaders at Clarkston. He now has 720 points and is in 27th place.
The Wolves won their league game against North Farmington, 59-39. Loyer led for the night with 24 points and had seven assists. Sophomore Keegan Wasilk had 16 points and 10 assists. Senior Matt Nicholson had 12 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. Sophomore Mike DePillo had four points and three rebounds and senior Cole Donchez had four steals.
The Wolves opened the week at West Bloomfield. They host Lake Orion on Thursday in the last game of the regular season. JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows with senior night.
Clarkston opens the MHSAA Division 1 Boys Basketball District 5 playoffs at home against Rochester Adams on Monday, 5 p.m.
The winner moves on to the semifinals on Wednesday against Oxford, 5 p.m.
