At Sashabaw Presbyterian Church, “God’s doors are open to all” is the theme of the worship service being held virtually this coming Sunday, June 28, at 11 a.m.
The service is part of Pride Month at the church which was modified due to COVID-19.
The month began when the church installed the “rainbow doors” on June 1, while other activities included a Zoom Pub Theology led by one of the LGBT members of the church, joining with the More Light Presbyterians for a celebration, and a documentary about the journey to acceptance of LGBT Christians.
“The doors to the church are not our doors, they are God’s doors,” said Sashabaw Presbyterian Pastor Rev. Laura Sias-Lee.
“We choose to open the doors so all may hear the good news of hope, joy and love. We choose love over fear. We believe this is the path God calls us to take and so we seek ways to be accessible for all by honoring our diversity.”
“One of the things I really like about this church is LGBT folks and straight folks can have honest dialog and listen to one another in an atmosphere of safety and love,” added Abigail Wright, a member of the church.
The service on June 28 will include guest preacher Jim McDougald from St. John’s Episcopal Church in Clayton, Calif.
“There are many people in our community who do not feel welcome in the church, but our church welcomes all people with open arms and hearts,” said Jan Jones, an elder of the church. “This service is for parents of LGBT, siblings, and others who care, as well as LGBT members and others who would like to find family and love.”
