The Wolves ruled the slopes as the girls varsity ski team won the Pine Knob League Division, Feb. 2.
“It’s the first time since 2014 the girls were able to win the division,” said Brian Popelier, head coach. “I am really pleased to be able to have that victory for the girls team. It shows we have a lot of potential going forward. We had a goal all season to start our tournament time with a win at divisions. With how good our division is it just sets us up for the next three races. We are really proud of them. They did a great job and they were prepared and executed their plan. It was great to see.”
The girls finished the Slalom and Giant Slalom in first place with a score of 23 each race out of 11 teams. They also had four skiers finish in the top ten in each race.

During the Slalom, Courtney Bayley led the team finishing in second place in the time of 46.22. Phoebe Savoie finished in third place, 47.35; Sydney Thomas, eighth place, 48.47; Lyndsey Nicosia, tenth place, 51.58; and Trisha Verbeke, 11th place, 52.14.
“Trisha was just outside the top ten which is great to see,” Popelier said.
During the Giant Slalom, Savoie led the the team finishing in second place in the time of 36.64. Bayley finished in fourth place, 37.00; Thomas, eighth place, 37.44; Cameron Brosky, ninth place, 37.49; Nicosia, 16th place, 39.06 and Verbeke, 18th place, 39.56.
“Cameron was coming from the fifth flight and placing in the top ten is great,” Popelier added. “It goes to show how deep our team is. Then, having Courtney and Phoebe being such dominant forces amongst everyone.”

They finished the Slalom race in third place with 49 points. Gunnar Karlstrom led the team finishing in fifth place in the time of 44.85. Luke Farella finished in eighth place, 46.01; Noah Ostheimer, 13th place, 48.70; Austin Bushroe, 23rd place, 55.15; Andrew Foyteck, 24th place, 56.38; and Andrew Roeser, 28th place, 57.49.
“I was pretty pleased with their Slalom performance,” said Popelier.
They finished in fourth place in the Giant Slalom with 61 points. Roeser led the team finishing in eighth place, 35.62. Farella, tied for 13th place, 36.14; Bushroe, 18th place, 36.75; Ostheimer, tied for 21st place, 37.35; Foyteck, 31st place, 38.03; and Karlstrom, 61st place, 42.37.
