Clarkston Varsity Baseball is gearing up to go against Oxford this week.
Addison Turk, head coach, explained the Wildcats are tough opponents.
“In this league every series is tough,” he added. “We’ll have to be ready to compete.”
The Wolves went 1-2 in their series against Rochester Adams last week.
They finished the three-game series on Wednesday with a 5-1 loss. The Highlanders were up 2-1 after the first inning and added one more run in the second inning and two more in the top of the third inning before the Wolves shut them down.
Ben Bacon went 2-for-3 at the bat. Matt Smith had one hit with an RBI.
Lucas McKinney pitched for four innings and had seven strikeouts. Trevor Garrett threw for two innings and had two strikeouts.
The Wolves split against Adams on Monday, April 26.
They won their second game 12-7. Adams was up 6-1 going into the fifth inning and the Wolves scored three runs at the top of the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning. They sealed the win with five runs in the seventh inning.
“I thought we had better approaches in the later innings,” said Turk. “McKinney, Krcziok, Smith, Bacon were all really good for us offensively. I thought Trevor Garrett was excellent in relief as well.”
Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. McKinney went 2-for4 at bat with a double and two RBIs. Brady Krcziok went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Robby Elliot had one hit with two RBIs. Bacon went 2-for-5 with one RBI and Mason King had one hit and one RBI.
Sam Case pitched for four innings with two strikeouts and Garrett threw for three innings with two strikeouts.
The Wolves lost their first game to Adams, 12-2. McKinney went 2-for-2 with a double and Ryan Wit had one hit with two RBIs.
Bacon pitched four innings and had five strikeouts.
The Wolves (5-7) opened the week against Oxford. They open their series against Lake Orion on Monday, May 10 at home, 4 p.m.
