‘A dream come true:? New store, used books downtown

Michael McLeod is a romantic kind of guy.
Since his wife Brenda Wilson was very young, she’s wanted to open her own book store.
‘I don’t know of very many people who can say they made the dreams of their spouse come true. That’s big for me,? McLeod said, owner of downtown Lake Orion’s newest business, Three Dog Books.
Speaking of romance, the store, featuring used books, has a good selection of romance novels, McLeod said, laughing. They also have kids, general fiction, horror and paranormal and mystery sections.
‘I’m more of a sci-fi/fantasy guy,? said McLeod. ‘I read ‘The Hobbit? when I was eight-years-old and that really captured my interest in sci-fi.?
McLeod has been laid off for nearly two years, so he decided now is as good a time as ever to open the store, named after the couple’s three dogs. Before trying his hand at the book store, McLeod was in engineering for General Motors working as a materials analyst for 12 years.
‘I can work at it full-time and (Wilson) can work on it when she wants to and it will help make her dream come true,? said McLeod, noting that, in a way, getting laid off was a blessing in disguise.
Wilson said her parents got her into reading when she was very young, so she’s always had a lot of books.
?(The store) will be my library and his work,? she said, laughing. ‘We look forward to being part of the community for a long time.?
McLeod is originally from Auburn Hills and has lived all over Michigan. Wilson grew up in Oxford and now works in the mental health field. The couple resides in Orion Township.
Three Dog Books is located at 18 N. Broadway in downtown Lake Orion.
