A star has come among us – errr, swam among us that is – and he’s waiting at Tom’s Hardware for you!
Tom Toteff, Sr., the owner of Tom’s Hardware, is now also the proud owner of a 10-foot long, 200-pound display featuring Finding Nemo stars Bruce the shark, Dori and of course, Nemo himself.
“I saw the ad in the Oakland Press for this display,” said Toteff Sr. “I decided I wanted to bid on it. I knew Nemo was the biggest grossing film this year.”
“Think about it, how many times do you get a chance to buy something like this?”
The cinematic memorabilia was donated by MJR Theaters of Waterford Township to The Daily Oakland Press as part of an online fund-raising auction. Toteff said once he set his mind to getting the display, he called in an amount with the Press and told them to contact him if anyone was close to outbidding him, but no one came near. Toteff was announced the proud owner at the Waterford Cultural Council’s 9th Annual SummerFest and all of the proceeds from the sale went to the Waterford Cultural Council.
So now the large Nemo sculpture is calling Oxford home – and Toteff plans to make sure everyone gets a chance to see the big star.
“We are going to set it up here at the store, and let people come in and have their picture taken with it for free,” explained Toteff.
The photos will be taken on September 20 from 2-5 p.m. Tom’s Hardware will then have the film developed, and the guests can come back the following week to pick up their picture, again all for free.
“I thought it would be a good gesture for the community,” Toteff said. “I’m open to schools bringing the kids to come and see it too. My grandkids just love it, they think it’s the greatest thing, and I know other kids will too.”
