25 years ago – 1997
“Some good news on new high school” The Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education learned contrary to the earlier trend, the last major big package on the new high school came in $800,000 under budget.
“Where the heart is” Pat Pearson received a beep on her pager she was needed in the lobby at Troy Beaumont Hospital. Expecting an emergency, she was instead greeted by a ladies’ barbershop quartet who broke into song and handed her flowers from her husband, Pastor Bill Pearson.
“TV weatherman blows into Andersonville” WXYZ-TV meteorologist Chad Myers wasn’t pelted with snow or sleet. Instead it was questions from Andersonville Elementary students during a school assembly.
50 years ago – 1972
“Clerk candidate ‘his own man’” Eighteen-year-old Robert J. Garner, of Cecilia Ann, a political student at Oakland Community College, was the first candidate to file nominating petitions fr the clerk’s election in Independence Township.
“Wolves win one, lose one” Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball added a win and a loss to their season tally. They opened the week with a loss to Bay City Central, 105-71. They defeated Waterford Kettering in a double overtime, 97-89.
“Around the township” Boy Scouts Troop 341 enjoyed an afternoon of ice skating at the home of Randy Cummings.
75 years ago – 1947
“Vows spoken at Candlelight Service” Marriage vows were spoken Saturday evening by Nancy Jane Kittredge, daughter of L. H. Kittredge of South Main Street, Clarkston and the late Mrs. Kittredge, and Duane D. Richardson, son of Mrs. Agnes Richardson of Pontiac, at a candlelight service in the First Baptist Church in Clarkston.
“Hilltopper” Second graders each drew two pictures about the story “Wizard of Oz” and planned to paste them together to make a movie. Fourth graders learned how to cut letters for posters and booklet covers. Valentines were seen everywhere both home made and those purchased from the store.
“Clarkston locals” Mrs. Lloyd Sibley entertained her bridge club at luncheon on Thursday afternoon at her home on North Main Street.
