25 years ago – 1997
School project to be 2-phased: Representatives of the Clarkston Community Schools’ architect and construction manager appeared at the regular school board meeting and received an agreement from the board the upcoming Phase III building project should be accomplished in two phases.
Kids care: Students in Clarkston High School’s National Honor Society and Student Council spent the Saturday helping to spruce up Robert Frost Elementary on Pontiac’s east side. The students were among 1,000 people participating in the United Way of Oakland County’s six annual Day of Caring.
50 years ago – 1972
Tentative school enrollments announced: There were 7,057 students enrolled in Clarkston schools according to a tentative estimate by Board of Education officials. The figure was 165 more students than the previous year. The overall picture showed 26 less students enrolled in elementary grades, 118 more in the junior highs and 86 more in the senior high.
Around the township: Roger and Mary Weeks of Snow Apple celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in a conventional yet unconventional way. Following a marvelous dinner at the Chuck Wagon in Dryden, the Weeks headed for the bushes at the Bristol Blueberry Farm where they gather 24 pounds of blueberries.
75 years ago – 1947
Local girl chosen campus sister: Doris Boyns of Clarkston was chosen to serve as one of the Senior Sisters on the campus of Western Michigan College during Freshman Days.
Clarkston locals: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Steiner and son, Martin, returned from vacation at Hubbard Lake. They said the fish were biting so fast they hardly had time to get their bait ready. They had a few good fish dinners.
