It was a season members of the Clarkston Chiefs Freshman White team will cherish for years to come as they finished not only with an undefeated season but as the Northern Youth Football League Superbowl Champions.
The boys defeated Lake Orion White for the title, 13-6.
“It was never our intention to have an undefeated season,” said Tim Polonkey, head coach. “Some of the most important lessons in life are a result of defeat.”
He explained the coaches set the players for success each week and challenged them with new offensive plays including blocking schemes and routes for both running and passing the football.
The boys defeated Oxford Blue, 44-12, and Lapeer, 35-0, for the American Division playoffs.
Polonkey added a highlight for the season was every player on the team grew as an individual in good character, choosing a positive attitude, respect for others and learned the power of teamwork.
“It was our goal to play each athlete as much as possible throughout the season, so when we needed them most they were ready to step up,” he said. “On Superbowl Saturday, that is exactly what happened. Every young person on our team believed in each other and our team that became a family. In the end we beat a talented, strong, fast, and well-coached Orion team with a perfect defensive record twice.”
The Clarkston Chiefs Freshman White team is Johnathan Ament, Brady Atkinson, Brady Barth, Jacob Brown, Noah Brown, Greyson Clark, Luke Darnell, Johnathon Dubre, Devon Dufour, Landen Fetty, Charles Formaro, Evan Holler, Beau Jacobsen, Luis Jimenz, John Kaul, Ethan Kern, Jack Kopsch, Jackson McKinney, Noah Orlowski, Hansen Polonkey, Bodie St. Amour, Malachi Switzer, Braden Waechter, Denny Wandrei and Dane Webb.
“It was an incredible season with these young men,” said Polonkey. “I know the coaches will miss seeing them everyday.”
