Players from the Clarkston Chiefs JV Blue football team spent time off the field and in the kitchen helping others.
The Chiefs, along with Coach Jayme Mutter and Coach Adam Streetman worked at the North End Soup Kitchen in Flint, Sept. 22.
They prepared a meal for about 75 homeless people from scratch. They cut meat and onions, boiled pasta and made cream sauce for beef stroganoff. They also made a huge salad, fruit salad, corn and served it all with donated desserts and bread.
“It was amazing to see these boys, who are in fifth and sixth grade, work so hard for a group of people they have never met,” said Sarah Mutter, a parent.
After they prepared the meal the players served it to their guests.
“It was touching to see how excited the people receiving lunch were to chat with the boys about where they were from, how their football season was going and what position each of them played,” Sarah shared. “The boys worked hard to provide that meal, and it was eye opening for them to see how many kids came in to get a meal.”
After lunch was served, the boys continued to work as they cleaned the entire soup kitchen.
“By the end of the day they were all exhausted but they all had full hearts,” Sarah said. “Every single boy said they enjoyed it and would like to come back and do it again. It really was an amazing experience for these young boys who have so much to offer. It was extremely rewarding for the boys, coaches and other parents who went as well. We all get occupied with our own lives and what we have to do. It is so nice to be able to do something for others who are in need.”
It was an optional team event and each of these kids volunteered to come and do this on their day off from football.
JV Blue plays this Saturday at Grand Blanc Black at Grand Blanc High School.
Players who volunteered their time were Johnny Bechinski, Lukas Boman, Griffin Boman, Tommy Bossi, Chance Chakroff, Jude Cherwak, Hayden Flavin, Rylan Gardner, Drake Griffin, Brody Kraft, Ayden Mutter, AJ Plouhar, Tyson Scott, Lucas Seedorf and Ethan Streetman.
