Booters snag two end of season wins

It was a great way to wrap up their regular season last week when the Oxford Varsity girls? soccer team defeated both Goodrich and Waterford Kettering.
Against Goodrich last Wednesday, Oxford scored early in the half with a goal from junior Brittany Moncrieff at the 10 minute mark.
The second goal came later in the half with a beautiful cross from Moncrieff that crossed in front of the goal keeper to a perfectly located junior Colleen Turley for the goal.
The Wildcats netted three more goals, thanks to Moncrieff and senior captain Alex Johnson.
Oxford finished the game winning 5-1.
Against Kettering last Thursday, Oxford played hard on a cold, rainy evening.
During the first half, the Wildcats had at least 12 shots on goal, but couldn’t put the ball into the net.
The second half opened up going against the wind, but the girls were able to keep it in Waterford’s end.
Sophomore Kelsey Littman opened up the scoring with a beautiful left-footed shot. She was assisted by freshman Sara Nieboer.
Waterford’s second half goal tied the game 1-1 with 10 minutes of play left.
The winning goal came with less than three minutes left on the clock, when freshman Beth Downs made a nice trap in front of the net, beat her mark and put a hard shot on the keeper that slipped past her outstretched arms.
The game ended 2-1.
‘We were fortunate to score so late in the game, but it showed our players that we can never stop working until the clock sounds and that anything can happen in this crazy game sometimes,? said coach Mark Sullivant.
The coach said he’s proud of the team and the effort they have put for this year, who finished 5-4-1 overall.
‘I am looking forward to next season to see if we can build on this years? season,? he said.
Sullivant would like to thank JV coach Gary Skrzyski for his valuable assistance with the team.
The Wildcats had their first district game against Avondale last night, but the score wasn’t readily available before press time. Check out the Leader next week for a wrap-up.
