Police in Independence Township are in the process of submitting an arrest warrant for a man suspected breaking a vehicle windshield, aggravated assault and detonating three chemical bottle bombs in the front yard of a May 29 party on Whipple Tree Lane.
The incident took place around 3:10 a.m. after the suspect allegedly started a fight at the party and was asked to leave. During the altercation, the man allegedly punched another party goer in the face, resulting in the man being treated at St. Joe’s Hosptial for a broken jaw.
Following the altercation, the suspect left on his ATV, but reportedly drove by the residence yelling obscenities a few times.
According to witness statements in police reports, the man returned to the scene driving a car and slung a bag of glass bottles at a vehicle breaking the windshield. The man then allegedly threw a bomb consisting of three pop bottles taped together into the party.
According to reports, warrants submitted for include malicious destruction to a motor vehicle, operating an unlicensed vehicle on the road, disorderly person and deliver/detonate bottle bomb.
‘We have a suspect and are in the process of submitting a warrant,? said Sgt. Matt Baldes of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Independence Township substation. ‘The party was fine, there were no problems and we wouldn’t have been called there if not for this.?
Baldes would not ‘venture a guess on the motive,? and said no damage or injury was caused by the bomb.
